Canyon Club Palm Springs Has Closed — Supporting Affected Guests
Palm Springs has long been a place of refuge, freedom, and connection—especially within the history of men's resorts that helped shape the city into the inclusive destination it is today. For decades, these spaces have offered more than just a place to stay. They've created community, chosen family, and a sense of belonging that many guests carry with them for years.
The iconic Canyon Club Hotel officially closed in December 2025, resulting in the cancellation of upcoming reservations. Many longtime guests were left searching for clarity and next steps for their planned stays. We recognize that for many, Canyon Club wasn't just a hotel, it was a familiar gathering place filled with memories, friendships, and traditions for many gay men.
Originally opened in the 1950s as the La Fonda Hotel by Leo Fine, the property changed hands in 1967 and became the Canyon Boy's Club in the 1990s. After the club closed in 2003, plans for redevelopment were halted when John Halderman, a New York City native and former owner of Laguna Beach's iconic gay bar Boom Boom Room, purchased the property. Together with his partner, professional carpenter Chris Guyer, Halderman undertook a complete renovation, preserving the midcentury charm while modernizing all rooms, suites, and the pool area.
At Desert Paradise Resort, we approach this moment with deep respect for that history. Men's resorts in Palm Springs have always been connected by more than proximity. They share a common purpose rooted in hospitality, acceptance, and care for the community they serve. In that spirit, we've been working collaboratively and thoughtfully to help ease this transition for Canyon Club guests affected by canceled reservations.
We are happy to welcome those guests and to honor confirmed Canyon Club reservations and room rates whenever possible. Our goal is not to replace what was, but to offer a familiar sense of ease, warmth, and belonging during a time of change. We want guests to feel supported, heard, and genuinely welcomed.
Desert Paradise has its own long-standing place in Palm Springs' history, and we take that responsibility seriously. As we continue to refresh and enhance the property, we remain grounded in the values that have always defined these spaces: connection, comfort, and community. This collaboration is an extension of that commitment.
To former Canyon Club guests: you are welcome here. We invite you to reach out directly so we can assist with honoring your reservation and help make your next stay as seamless and relaxing as possible. We look forward to welcoming you and continuing the tradition of Palm Springs hospitality—together.
